Where did TIG Creative come from?
Firstly, welcome to the TIG Creative blog. Here you’ll find musings, ideas and general chat about what I do.
Where did TIG Creative come from then? The name or the concept?
The name, Tig, is something I used waaaaay back when you added nicknames to avatars before avatars were a thing. I have always had a bunch of different nicknames and I thought, one day, it would be funny to use ‘The Tig’ as it was a little play on The Stig… and all the other iterations I attempted to use had been taken. It’s got absolutely nothing to do with how I take a corner when driving…
A little side story on that though… in the early days of Instagram, a ‘good friend’ of a certain future Duchess contacted me asking if I would surrender my name as she had a lifestyle blog of the same name and “would absolutely love to have the Instagram name too”. I politely declined.
Anyway, when I started dabbling in some freelance work, I needed a name for it. I have to name things and create the visuals around it or I just can’t focus. I love creating brands, especially the visual stuff. My first business I used my name but I just struggled to ‘sell’ it. I found it way too personal. It was like marketing my soul every time I had to talk about it. I have nothing against calling your brand your name, but it doesn’t work for me. Lesson learnt. So, without stepping too far away from ‘me’, I started to use TIG. The creative bit came about because I’m not solely marketing, and I know I am creative. And so TIG Creative was born.
The concept is something I’ve been evolving with over my entire working career.
If you were to look at my CV you might raise your eyebrows. To say I’ve bounced around a range of industries is an understatement. I’ve work in the sailing industry, Landscape Architecture, been a swimming teacher & coach, been a silversmith, set up a company selling second hand clothes, designed and made vinyl wall stickers, worked for a small boat manufacturer, and worked for a skincare company, as well as a bunch of other in-between jobs. That, in a nutshell is my ‘career portfolio’!!
Over the past few years I have naturally moved into copywriting, which I have discovered I love. I’m really proud of my experience and the brands I’ve worked with and am so excited to see where this takes me.
